After a week off for spring break, the Caledonia girls varsity soccer team improved to 2-1-2 and pitched their third shutout of the season with a 3-0 victory over visiting Muskegon Mona Shores to begin OK-Green play. Senior Baylee DeVries got Cal on the board quickly in the third minute with a perfectly placed shot in the top left corner from 12 yards out. DeVries nearly made it a two-goal lead just a minute later, but a one-armed save over the crossbar kept it 1-0. Freshman Natalie James from her center back position got involved in the offense early with a shot in the opening minute saved from 18 yards out. She also had a header off the right post in the 20th minute and then immediately thereafter took another shot on goal from 20 yards straight on. The Fighting Scots had numerous corner kicks in the opening half and would record seven shots on goal compared to just one for the Sailors. Mona Shores stayed in the game early in the second half with a few more saves, but Caledonia would not be denied for long. Sophomore Olivia Foster made a tough individual play to keep the ball and race upfield before unleashing a shot inside the left post from the right wing around 15 yards out for a 2-0 lead in the 55th minute. Sophomore Lilli Ward did not have a busy night, but had a highlighted save in the 56th minute as she punched out a free kick and made three saves on the night. Sophomore Ellie Vanderroest made it 3-0 in the 60th minute as junior Kelsey Roszkowski took a corner kick and Vanderroest cleaned up the scrum in front of the goal for the 3-0 advantage.
